In this day and age, finding new music is the favorite pastime of every millennial. We are constantly looking for that new sound, that new artist, that new ‘something’ that satisfies our insatiable appetite for good music. Sometimes you can find that artist easily, and other times you have to dig a little deeper to find those just coming into their own musical greatness. Well, we have found that emerging greatness in a talented 19-year old hailing from London named Jayana.
Singer-songwriter Jayana is a bright artist with a lot of potential to shake up the music industry. Having performed widely across her hometown, she finds inspiration for her sound in the art of live performance and popular music. When on stage she brings an energy that leaves audiences captivated, often accompanying herself with her guitar. After recently headlining her own show at The Good Ship in London, she is currently working on new music to release.
Did you always know you wanted to be a singer?
I was always a performer, I loved being creative and performing in plays but singing really only came into the picture 4 years ago. And it took a while to realise I could actually make a career out of it! So no it’s actually recent in comparison to other artists
Describe your process for writing a song:
Writing a song is a natural process, it’s never the same way, but most of the time I come up with an idea and develop it with some simple chords on a guitar or piano, before it’s a finished product
What is the biggest challenge for you, just starting out as an artist?
Not everyone is willing to listen and take you seriously, and that’s probably the toughest part. When I first started off everyone thought it was just a hobby, I was doing over 200 shows a year and somehow people still thought it’s one of those phases. That’s probably the toughest part.
You prefer the live band sound when performing, what musicians inspired this love?
There are so many musicians that don’t get enough credit for belting out live and performing with a band is not easy. So I highly respect it. I’d say the biggest contributors to this Love would be the likes of Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande and Jessie J.
If you could perform live with any person, alive or dead, who would it be?
Hands down Jessie J I’d challenge her to a riff off and lose but at least I can say I tried.
Any new music or projects that we should look out for?
Yes for sure, I have two singles coming out this year, one coming very soon! So if you follow all my socials you’ll keep updated and won’t miss it!
