#WHO You would’ve thought they came out of the 10 o’clock service at YouBettaSangBoy Baptist church, but coming all the way from Sweden is the pop rock band Dirty Loops. Comprised of lead vocalist and pianist Jonah Nilsson, bassist Henrik Linder, and drummer Aron Mellergardh.
#WHY Every day you hear the many comments and Facebook memes, complaining about how authentic music is a dead cause…well…guess what? It’s not! Dirty Loops is a band that stylistically arranges their music with strong hints of jazz-fusion, funk, disco, and the soulful gospel your grandmamma shouts at. They’re huge risk takers with their arrangements, being that they tend to funkify hit singles we all know and love. Think a funky gospel rendition of Avicii’s “Wake Me Up” or Adele’s “Rolling in The Deep” and they even managed to drop some soul onto Britney Spears’s “Circus“. Their style is not something the youthful age may be accustomed to, from the slapping bass chords, crisp ambitious drums even FAMU may fear, and pure vocals that put the LAAWWDD have mercy in soul…but you won’t be able to stop yourself from slapping feet on the ground and clapping to a testimony.
#WHAT’SNEW Their latest and first studio album “Loopified” is currently out featuring their hit original “Hit Me” and their “Wake Me Up” cover. They’ve also been openers for Maroon 5 on the Asia and Oceania legs of their 2015 tour. Dirty Loops still tours but haven’t touched the US shores just as yet, but believe me, they are coming to the world with something fresh, and most importantly…something funky.
