So your significant other has asked you over for Thanksgiving to meet his parents! You are about to take a very big step in your relationship, and after the initial nerves wear off you may ask yourself…. What am I gonna wear??!!?!?!
This can be a tricky thing to tackle because there are so many factors that come into play. You want to make a good impression, but you always want to look good. Sometimes it can be hard to find that balance between dressing appropriately for the occasion but still showing off your own personal style.
Here are a few Thanksgiving outfit ideas that not only give you a chance to shine, but will make his parents happy to have you as a new edition to the family.
Keep It “Dressy”
This outfit works for many reasons. First, we have the option of the flare dress which immediately gives you a classy and refined look. It’s not too form fitted but still extenuates your waistline, allowing your figure to show but in all the right ways. Second, the tall boot brings the look down into “casual-land” so you are not too over dressed for the family either. You can pair this look with pearl jewelry and an infinity scarf offering a pop of color.
“Bootie-ful” Sweater Weather
This look introduces a more casual edge, but adds the sophistication of a modest bootie heel. This outfit says you aren’t trying to over do it, but at the same time you are ready to be the center of attention. To make this look more interesting, color blocking is suggested. You don’t always have to go for the basic blue jean, a maroon or dark olive color practically scream holiday season. Pair that with a simple solid or patterned sweater and your ready to meet the fam!
Preppy & Ready
So for all my preppy girls at heart, this one is for you! Again with this look keep in mind that flare is your friend! You don’t want to wear a tube skirt that leaves nothing to the imagination, how awkward would that be? Here you can match a colored flare skirt with a nice blouse, giving you the chic-ness of color blocking once again! You can also add a tall heeled boot with this if you choose, just to remind them you’re about your business.
Tonight is not the night for your Kim Kardashian contouring and fake lashes. You want to do everything to make sure you have a nice, finished, simple look. For eyes, stick with a matte color that matches your skin tone. Stay away from shimmery colors and smoky eyes. Use a some eye liner and mascara to bring your eyes to life. Go light on the contouring, again you are not going for a drastic look. Apply in small amounts to give your face definition. Then, spice it up with a nude or red lip and you are ready to go!
