‘Tis the season to express your love for others, but most importantly for yourself! There’s no such thing as not having a valentine. You have yourself, therefore you always have a valentine. But if you feel the bitter bugs crawling 💔🐜, here’s a schedule for a happy day with you, yourself and… you.
First things first, WORKOUT!💪💦 If you have never done it before, today is a great day to start. I actually did the below workout myself and it was quite killer. 3-4 sets of each exercise for 10-15 reps! Get to the gym first or bust a sweat in your room. Either way, get all those negative feelings out and burn some calories.
Okay, now that that’s out the way shower 🚿of course and take your time. Showers are a great space for reflection, try creating positive thoughts and of course pamper yourself a little. If you haven’t shaved your legs in forever, maybe do it today. There’s no rush to get out!
Post shower and moisturizing, go get your nails done!💅💅💅 Or if you are looking to save money paint your nails yourself. Maybe invite someone along that’s also a little lonely today. Get creative if you’re a DIY type of person, there are tons of designs on pinterest get fancy.
Now that that’s done, when’s the last time you called a family member? ☎️Or an old friend from back home? Take a few minutes to give those people a call just to check in on them. I personally plan to call both of my grandmothers so something like that will take you out of the mindset of feeling down today.
Now you’re probably gonna get hungry and you can A. Cook yourself a wonderful dinner B. Go out to dinner or C. Order yourself a wonderful dinner. If I had a stove I would pick A, but you may live in a dorm that doesn’t allow that so you could always go out. But if you feel like seeing others out will bring you down, then order! Pizza, Chinese, Indian (curry lamb & basmati rice) whatever.🍕🍔🍟🍝🍛🍜
And then there’s good ol’ Netflix. Idk about you, but sometimes the college hustle can cause you to miss out on some of your favorite shows. I myself missed last Thursday and badly need to catch up on Scandal, How to Get Away With Murder, and Grey’s Anatomy. And also if you’re looking for new shows to watch Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, Gossip Girl, Revenge, Sons of Anarchy, Once Upon A Time, are all available on Netflix and are great for binge watching. And you could always go the illegal route and watch some movies and tv shows that are not on Netflix.
Also if you’re legal, I myself have until July, it may not hurt to get yourself a nice bottle of wine🍷 to go along with your dinner and tv watching. Or maybe that book you haven’t picked up since last semester. OR re-read a series that had you on the edge of your seat a while ago. Ex: A Series Of Unfortunate Events. The PDF for the first book is free somewhere online. Go tap back into your younger self.📕📗📘📙
Now this part is for my creative souls: Go get yourself some arts and crafts materials and truly be artsy today. Channel all those feelings you have and make something beautiful. If you are a songwriter, find yourself a piano and write a song🎹, if you’re a poet write a poem✏️📒, if you’re a singer go sing😫☝️🎶, if you dance go dance💃, do whatever you feel is expression for you.
And lastly of course, a way to occupy your time this day, do something nice for someone else. As mentioned before, if you have a friend that’s just at lonely spend the day with them👭👬. Maybe agree to get each other a small gift, or plan to go to the movies together. A Valentine doesn’t always have to be a romantic partner, it very well could be your best friend, your mom, your nephew, whoever.
So I hope this helps someone out there! Enjoy today and Happy Valentine’s Day!
